The Independence of a Two Year Old

Wow!  I never thought two year olds could be this independent.  It is so awesome to see Kaylee’s growing independence, but at the same time it’s scary.  At the park there is no piece of equipment off limits.  She climbs up a ladder 15 feet tall (a little under 3 meters) and goes down the highest set of slides.  There she is playing with the “big kids.”  At home, she dresses herself and gets mad when I help.  She just learned today how to put her arms in the sleeves of her shirt.  She has tried for months but didn’t get the concept of going up through the bottom to reach the arm holes.  She wanted to go down through the top of the head hole to get to the arm holes.  It took a lot of patience on my part to tell her with arms and actions how to do it because she wanted nothing to do with me showing her.  After all, she’s a two year old (note the sarcasm)  The “terrible” twos are fun to watch as she grows independent, tries new things, and learns how to do so many things.  The twos are only “terrible” when she has to be confined at church or if we go to a restaurant (which only happens rarely and usually it’s to go out with other extended family members).  It’s so fun!!!  I love this age.  It’s my new favorite age.

Owen is growing.  He is now 27 1/2 inches long and 18 pounds.  He rolled over once but hasn’t done it since.  He is close to crawling.  We joke that he will crawl before he rolls over.  Heck, he may never get the rolling concept.  But who needs that anyways, right?  hahaha

Spring Break

As spring break is coming to a close, I would like to “rethink the week.”  This week was such a fun week to spend at home with my munchkins.  It started with Easter and the joy of Jesus’ resurrection!  Monday and Tuesday were spent at home potty training, cleaning, baking, cooking, and doing laundry.  It was nice to get caught up on the chores and once again have a clean house.  Wednesday and Thursday we had playdates with friends.  THat was fun and gave me some much needed girl talk and time with adults.  On Friday, Paul had off of work and it was a beautiful day.  We had family time at the gymnastics center and a picnic in the park.  Saturday and Sunday was windy but beautiful.  We spent the weekend having more family time.  Now, I’m grading papers and getting things ready for school.

Kaylee is officially potty trained.  It took just two days of having two accidents (Friday and Saturday) and on Easter she had one accident (but she almost made it).  After that there were no more accidents and she is doing great!  We’ll see how this week at the babysitter’s goes.  My big girl is growing up!!

It was also nice to get some homemade gifts done for birthdays and baptisms as well as keep working on Kaylee’s quilt and the scrapbooks that I have started.  I feel revitalized and refreshed and ready to put forth 110% to finish the school year!

Update on both kids

Right now my life revolves around my kids.  With Kaylee at 2 years old and Owen at 6 months old, time is flying by.

Kaylee is now potty trained.  It is so nice to be done with diapers for one child.  She is talking and putting 2-3 words together to make sentences.  Just today she said, “Car all wet.”  It rained out today and her Cozy Coupe Car that was outside was all wet.  Yesterday I took her along with me while I went shopping and I asked her if she wanted to go.  So she told Paul, “shopping.”  Then the whole way there, that’s all she said over and over again, “shopping, shopping, shopping.”

Owen is sitting up.  He loves to put things in his mouth.  He is not rolling over.  I try to do as much tummy time as I can but within 30 seconds of him on the floor on his tummy he is screaming bloody murder.  So we try several times a day.  Owen is eating like crazy.  He eats baby food and cereal and nurses.  After eating 4 tablespoons of baby food and 4 tablespoons of cereal and nursing about 5 ounces, then he seems to be full.  I can only imagine what our food bill will be as he gets older and eats table food…

Owen was born

Since we are updating our website I thought I would update about Owen being born.  It was fun to look back and see when Kaylee came into the world and when I would have been induced.  Owen was due on November 5, 2010 and decided to enter the world on October 31, 2011.  He weighed 8 pounds 12 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long.  This labor was considerably shorter than the labor I had with Kaylee.  It was amazing how quickly everything went since Kaylee was 10 days late and I labored for 33 hours.  My water broke at 5:30pm and Owen was born at 8:30am the next morning.  Some similarities are neat to think about.  With both kids, my water broke on a Saturday evening around 4-5pm.
